The Normandy Scholars Program is open to all undergraduate students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Students selected for the program will register for a 3-credit-hour Normandy Scholars Seminar during spring semester 2019 and participate in a mini-term study trip to locations in England, France, and The Netherlands. All successful applicants will receive a $3,000 scholarship to be used to defray program costs.
Participants will be selected based on three main criteria, listed in order of importance: academic promise; the program’s goal of involving a cross-disciplinary group; and financial need. Interested students must have at least a 3.25 GPA and sophomore standing or higher at the time of application.
The application is made through the Study Abroad Office and will include:
- An essay of no more than 250 words addressing the question: “Why is it important for a society to commemorate or to memorialize past conflicts?”
- An essay of no more than 250 words explaining the potential of this program to contribute to your intellectual/academic development.
- The name and email address of one University of Tennessee, Knoxville faculty member who can comment on your abilities as a student (you have done coursework with them, or they have been involved in your research work). The faculty member does not have to write a letter, but you should ask them in advance if they are willing to serve as a reference.
