After visiting Strasbourg our first day, I realized I had taken a lot of photos of the architecture around the city. Reflecting back on a fact from our tour guide, I realized that the reason I could see a variety of styles and ages of buildings because of the quick thinking of the people of the city in World War II. The decision to evacuate the city and deter the Nazis from looting and burning the city down (a rare occasion during the war) is a large reason the long memory and history of Strasbourg stays alive to this day.
